Object Story |
Edmund D. Wright was a member of the Adolphustown & Fredericksburg community, and was born December 21, 1920, being raised by Archibald and Lillian Wright. Edmund would go on to enlist with the 32/34 Royal Canadian Artillery Field Battery during the Second World War, and was mustered to the 2nd Light Anti-Aircraft Battery in the 14th Field Regiment in the Royal Canadian Artillery. After a stop in the United Kingdom, Sergeant Wright would be deployed to the beaches of Normandy, France during D-Day. Wright would survive the conflict. According to family tradition Edmund also worked as a surveyor during the Second World War. The role of the surveyor often encompassed creating topographic surveys, map reproduction, and artillery fire plans. It is thought that this would have been one of the tools Edmund used while surveying during the war. After the war Edmund returned to his home region and married Ruth Duffet, who gave birth to two daughters, Susan and Sherry. Wright, after the war, found himself as the treasurer of South Fredericksburgh Township, as a real estate agent, and also as a farmer. Edmund Wright would pass away on September 21, 1968. |
