Object Story |
Medal awarded to Doris Anderson for being Head Girl at Napanee Collegiate Institute. Doris was born May 1, 1914, in Nappanee, in a home on Dundas Street. Her parents were George Harold Anderson (b.1887) of Napanee and Florence Luella Anderson (nee Warner) (b.1886) of Colebrook. George and Florence were married September 4, 1912 in the village of Colebrook. George worked as a liveryman (someone who worked or owned a stable with horses for hire), while Florence worked as a house keeper. The family was living in Napanee in the 1920's, where Doris went to school. In 1921 we know the family were living at 12 Dundas Street. Doris graduated from Napanee Collegiate Institute in 1931 as head girl, also known as "Princeps Alumna". After graduation she went on to study Math and Physics at Queens University. In adulthood Doris married Lorne Miller, and had two children Mary Elizabeth Miller, and Bruce Warner Miller. Doris lived in Napanee until 1954 after which she resided in Toronto until she passed away in 2003. |
