This uniform was owned by Ron Baker during his service in the Canadian Military. Stewart Ronald Baker was born on December 9th, 1908. Beginning when he was 27, Ron served in the militia with the Frontenac Regiment and the 47th Field Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery for 3 years after which he retired. On September 9th, 1938 Ron married Daisy Marie Moore in Oshawa. On July 19th, 1940, he reenlisted as a Sergeant Instructor with the Administrative and Training Staff of the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment. He was later transferred twice first to the C.A.T.C Petawawa as a Sergeant Instructor in the Royal Canadian Artillery then to the 26th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery as a Warrant Officer, Second Class. He remained here until the regiment disbanded in late 1942 following which he reverted to a Sergeant rank and was sent to C.A.R.U. in England. Once he arrived in England he was transferred to the Canadian Infantry Corps and was sent to Belgium to join the Algonquin Regiment. In Belgium he was wounded in battle and was in the hospital when victory in Europe was announced. He was officially discharged on September 18th, 1945. Ron and Daisy remained in Lennox and Addington County for the remainder of their lives. Daisy passed away in 1982 at the age of 77. 15 years later Ron passed away in 1997 at the age of 88. The two are buried in Roblin Cemetery together in Roblin, Ontario. |
