Object Story |
This robe was worn by Alma (nee Clark) Martin on her wedding day in 1889. Alma Emily Clark was born the first child of Ezra H. Clark and Emily J. Campbell in 1868. Alma's birth was soon followed by her siblings, Minnie A. (1871-1886), Walter Michael (1875-1934), Franklin J. (1877-1886) and Latham Ernest (1877-1927). When she was 21 Alma married Edward Resiel Martin on January 27th, 1889. 10 years later the couple had their only child Clinton B. The family lived in Wilton for the extent of their lives where Edward worked as a farmer. When Edward's father, William Martin, passed away in 1910 his widowed mother, Nancy, lived with the family until her death in 1921 at the age of 96. Edward passed away at the age of 84 in 1945. A year later Alma passed away at the age of 78. The two are buried together in Wilton Cemetery near Alma's parents and siblings. |
