Object Story |
This veil belonged to Mary Lehrner. She wore it October 26, 1968 to her wedding in Toronto Ontario. On that day she married Cecil Lockhart. The couple moved to Colebrook in 1990. Mary ran Colebrook Nurseries until 2002. White wedding dresses and accessories are a relatively recent wedding tradition beginning in 1840, with Queen Victoria's wedding, though other notable figures had worn white wedding dresses prior to her such as Mary Queen of Scots in 1558. Beginning in 1840 the tradition slowly made its ways into households throughout Europe and across the Atlantic. Up until the post WWII era many brides still wore coloured dresses, though more and more brides chose to where a white dress and accessories. |
