Canadian Volunteer Service Medal enclosed in original box and packing material. Medal: Silver medal. Obverse shows seven marching men and women of the Navy, Army, Air Force, and Nursing service, legend has the words: "1939 CANADA 1945//VOLUNTARY*SERVICE*VOLONTAIRE" Reverse shows the coat of arms of Canada. Ribbon has a center stripe of dark blue flanked by thinner stripes of red then green. A silver bar clasps the ribbon and features a maple leaf in the centre. Box: Off white coloured rectangular box composed of a bottom and a slightly larger lid that fits over top of the bottom. Lid is stamped "C.V.S.M." Box holds original packing tissue. |

Issued to Charles Henry Brooks, for serving in World War II. Charles was born August 2, 1925. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps on November 15, 1943. His trade was ambulance orderly. He served in World War II in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He was a member of the Canadian Army Pacific Force though he never made it to the Pacific before the war ended. He was discharged from the military April 24, 1946 with the rank of Private. The Canadian Volunteer Service Medal was awarded to a person of any rank who voluntarily served on active service, honourably for 18 months. The 18 months of service were between September 3, 1939 and March 1, 1947. The maple leaf bar would have been awarded for 60 days of service outside of Canada. |
