Object Story |
This crazy quilt, made by Nina Stapley (nee Wood), features scraps of textiles sewn together with decorative stitching. Interspersed are the names and initials of Nina and the members of her family. The names given are Nina's mother-in-law (Mother), Nina's husband George Haskin Stapley (GHS), and their five children James Wesley (JWS), Hester Isabelle (HIS), Kate Victoria (KVS), Marjorie Eleanor (MJS), and Robert George Roy (RGS). The dates 1930 and 1932 are also embroidered on the quilt, presumably the years that Nina worked the quilt. Together, the Stapley family lived on and worked a farm near Deseronto purchased in 1925. Their son Rober George Roy and his wife Betty Margaret Helen Stapley worked that same land until 1974. Robert and Betty's daughter donated the quilt to the Lennox & Addington Museum in their memory. |
