Off-white cotton wedding slip with plain band at top and laced bottom. 26 cm slit down the back of the skirt from the top band. Layer of cotton ruffles underneath the bottom 26cm of the skirt. |
Object Story |
The owner of this slip is thought to have been Zellah Mary Pearl Grooms. Zellah was born in Richmond, Lennox and Addington County, December 9, 1888, to Zephaniah A. Grooms (1857-1931) and Jane Ann Kelly (1861-1936). Zellah was the only daughter in the family with three older brothers and one younger brother. Zellah married Robert Lorne MacAfee in Lennox and Addington County. Lorne was born October 26, 1878 in Ontario to Matthew MacAfee and Sarah Grose. Before he married Zellah, Lorne worked as a farmer. The pair were married June 15, 1909. By 1911 Lorne and Zellah had moved to Toronto. Sadly Zellah died a year later in 1912 from Tuberculosis. |
