Robert Cox was born to Lucy and Edward Cox in Ireland around 1849 before moving to Enterprise, Ontario around the same time. He stayed in Enterprise where he became a store keeper and fixed watches for the community. In 1881 Robert married Alice French after which they had three kids. During his life, Robert was known for being a military enthusiast, joining the 47th Frontenac Regiment passed through all the commissions offered between 1899 and 1905 earning himself the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
