This bespoke swallow tail coat was made by Strickland & Sons on 15 Savile Row in West London around October 4th, 1911. A bespoke suit indicates that the coat was tailored to the buyer's specific customizations, in this case a Mr. A. W. Boswell Sr. as indicated by the inner tag. The bespoke style originated on Savile Row which is considered the "Golden Mile" of tailoring and still houses many bespoke tailoring firms. Strickland & Sons was founded in 1780 in West London. They moved to their iconic location at 15 Savile Row in 1887. In the 1900s the tailors expanded their reach and began visiting clients in the U.S and Canada while continuing their shop in London. As of 2004 the firth was integrated into the House of Richard Anderson who continues to make bespoke suits at 13 Savile Row. |
