Off-white cotton wedding slip. Two plain cotton straps sewn onto the top with a straight sack shaped body. Repeating triangular lace decoration around the top of the bust. The bottom two-thirds of the slip alternates between lace and pipping design. Bottom lace is similar in appearance to embroidered netting. |

This slip belonged to Zellah Mary Pearl Grooms, used for her wedding to Robert Lorne MacAfee Zellah was born in Richmond, Lennox and Addington County, December 9, 1888, to Zephaniah A. Grooms (1857-1931) and Jane Ann Kelly (1861-1936). Zellah was the only daughter in the family with three older brothers and one younger brother. Zellah married Robert Lorne MacAfee in Lennox and Addington County. Lorne was born October 26, 1878 in Ontario to Matthew MacAfee and Sarah Grose. Before he married Zellah, Lorne worked as a farmer. The pair were married June 15, 1909. By 1911 Lorne and Zellah had moved to Toronto. Sadly Zellah died a year later in 1912 from Tuberculosis. |
