This mink fur coat was worn by Mercy White around 1890 following a popularity in the fur type at the time. Mercy Jane Aylesworth was born in 1848 to William M. Aylesworth and Deborah A. Parks. When she was 37 years old Mercy married John Bruce White in North Fredericksburgh. The couple had 3 children and moved to South Fredericksburgh where they lived out the rest of their lives. John passed away in 1907 at the age of 72. Mercy passed away 32 years later, in 1939, at the age of 91. The two are buried together with John's first wife, Mary Loyst, in McDowall Memorial Cemetery in Sandhurst, Ontario. |
