Object Story |
This beautiful little hat was worn by Miss Beatrice Baughn and the record indicates it was from Napanee. This item was donated prior to the 1970s and we have little information about the miss who wore this hat. Given its style we can date it to the 1940s. Small pillbox style hats were popular in the 1940's usually trimmed with the feathers, veils, and flowers. By 1949 head fitting hats such as cloches were more fashionable, so we suspect this hat is earlier but post-war, given the accessories trimming the hat. The velvet suggests its an evening hat and possibly worn in the colder months. |
