Quilt; white ground with large central brightly coloured appliqued medallion depicting a Loyalist, an indigenous man, a voyageur and John Grave Simcoe in profile; eight smaller appliqued medallions regularly spaced around outer width of quilt depicting buildings and people related to Ontario and Lennox and Addington's history, plain blocks in between quilted in trillium design, red double fold binding, light grey backing with embroidered names in grey at each corner, hanging sleeve stitched to reverse, hand stitched, accompanied by prize-winning ribbon. |
Object Story |
This quilt celebrates Ontario's Bicentennial, and was entered into the Ontario Bicentennial Quilt Contest held at the Ontario Agriculture Museum in Milton on June 17, 1984. The quilt was awarded a sixth place ribbon, which is also housed at the museum. The quilt was made by The Napanee Piecemakers, which, at the time, consisted of Linda Burke, June Donaldson, Mary Ester Hicks, Evelyn MacPhail, Margaret Markle, Dorothy Martin, Linda Myatt, Iris Perrin, Eileen Ronald, Eleanor Taylor, Edith Wagar, Myrtle Walroth, and Evelyn Wright. Each of their names are embroidered on the quilt backing. |
