Object Story |
This children's snowsuit was worn by Allan Phillips who was born in 1951 to Olive Eva Phillips and George Walter Phillips. This snowsuit was made by the Deacon Brothers in Belleville in the 1950s. The company was founded by William Deacon and his brother Fred S. Deacon in 1903. They began as a purely shirt manufacturer but quickly moved to sportswear and military wear to expand their business. Their children's snowsuits in particular are modelled after military flying suits to match those that they made for military use. More notable customers included members of the royal family including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Phillip and then Prince Charles who wore parkas made by the brothers. The store was owned by 3 generations of family but closed down in April of 1990 after 187 years of tailoring. |
