Object Story |
This suit was worn by Norman Hutchison in Napanee during the 1950s. Norman Hutchison was born in 1910. On August 21st, 1943 Norman married Helen L. Honey and settled down in the Napanee area. After their wedding the two began their contributions to the Lennox and Addington Historical Society with Helen eventually becoming the Vice-President of the organization in 1962. It was during this time that the restoration of the Macpherson house began with help from the couple. Norman was in charge of maintenance throughout the entire restoration and Helen raised funds and restored the house with the help of the organization's president, Gerald Smith and associates from Upper Canada Village. After 6 years of restoration, the Macpherson house opened on August 5, 1968 to the public as a community space. Meanwhile, Norman became a department head at NDSS in 1964 and Helen began her work as a curator at the Lennox and Addington Museum and Archives. The two lived out their lives in Bath becoming active donators to the historical society and eventually the Museum. Helen passed away in 1992 at the age of 80. Her funeral was held at Grace United Church on June 10th, 1992 after which she was buried at Riverside Cemetery. Norman passed away two years later in 1994 at the age of 84, where he was then buried alongside his wife at Riverside Cemetery. In 2014, the Macpherson house was handed off to the Lennox and Addington Museum and Archives where it is still used as a community space, running events throughout the summer. |
