Object Story |
The 48th Highland regiment is one of Canada's most decorated military units. The 48th is known as a "Scottish" regiment. The first Highland regiment, the Black Watch, was raised in the 1600s from clans loyal to England's monarch, in order to keep an eye on the more unruly Highland clans. In modern times, these regiments still wear the tartan and other Scottish items of dress (although no longer in the field), and cultivate a reputation for fierceness on the battlefield. This uniform belonged to Stuart Moore, a local WW1 veteran. Stuart enlisted in 1916 and was invalided home December 1918. Since he did not see combat because of medical reasons, he was never issued a kilt. |
