Object Story |
In 1951 Sears Roebuck and Co., a retailer from the U.S. proposed a partnership to the Robert Simpson Company Limited. A deal was signed in late 1952 marking th beginning of Simpsons-Sears, which would take over Simpson's mail order service, as well as many buildings like order offices and heavy goods agencies. The business would commence early in 1953 with the release of the Simpsons-Sears Spring/Summer catalogue". Furthermore the two companies would jointly open retail stores, the first of which was in September of 1953 in Stratford, Ontario. In 1978 the Hudson's Bay Company acquired Simpsons and the partnership between Simpsons and Sears was dissolved. Sears was able to still use the name 'Simpsons Sears' on their retail stores but officially changed their name to Sears Canada in 1984. Though the Hudson's Bay Company attempted to keep Simpson's going, by the early 1990's the brand had been retired. |
