Object Story |
This medal was awarded to Arthur Bertram Fennell for his service in World War 1. He was born in Napanee ON, July 16, 1881. Before volunteering for the CEF he was working as an assistant registrar at the University of Toronto. He was of the rank of Lieutenant, his unit was Canadian Engineers, Second Division, Signals Corps. He was fighting in France when he became disabled due to Carbuncle, but was eventually approved to return to service. He won the Military Cross for maintaining telephone communication during the battle of Hill 70 which was a ten day battle in August of 1917 in France. In total he was in France for 19 months. He was part of the Siberian expedition. After the war he resumed his position at the University of Toronto. |
