This jacket was likely worn by a W.C Smith while serving with the No. 6th Company of the 47th Battery. The 47th battery is a non-permanent active militia of the Canadian Army (once the Canadian Militia) based in the Kingston, Ontario area. The No. 6th Company was established on Wolfe Island as of November 1866, then was redesignated to Napanee, Ontario in May of 1885 and finally redesignated to Enterprise, Ontario in November of 1895. The battery has served in the Fenian Raids, the North-West Rebellion and the First World War. |
