War Medal. Round silver medal with the veiled profile of Queen Victoria, words around the edge read "VICTORIA//REGINA/ET IMPERATRIX". The reverse of the medal features the red ensign of Canada, surrounded by a wreath of maple leaves and the word "CANADA" at the top. There is a silver top bar "FENIAN RAID 1870". Ribbon is striped red/white/red. |

John Moore Wallace was born in Napanee around 1843 to William and Eliza Wallace. He participated in the suppression of the Fenian Raids in 1870 with a rank of Private. His Regiment was Napanee Battery of Garrison Artillery. He was on duty in Kingston and aboard a gunboat on the St. Lawrence, where the Fenian Brotherhood was expected to cross. October 31, 1870 John married an immigrant from Tullyhogue, Ireland Margaret Beattie. March 17, 1873, several years after the raids, the couple had a son, whom they named Thomas Beattie Wallace. At the time of his son's birth, John was working as a plasterer. John died November 1, 1921, residing in Lennox and Addington County. Canada General Service Medal, awarded to members of the Imperial or Canadian Forces who aided in the suppression of the Fenian raids of 1866, 1870, and Riel's First Rebellion of 1870. |
