Object Story |
This woven coverlet was made by Mrs. McDonald in her home at Black Creek, Prince Edward County. It features an overshot design in cotton and wool, and was likely made around the mid-late ninteenth century. An overshot design has a distinct weave with an undyed warp and weft contrasted with a coloured weft, in a repeating abstract pattern. Weft and warp are what make up a weave, the weft being the longitudinal stationary thread which the warp wraps over and under. This coverlet was donated to the museum by Mrs. McDonald's great-granddaughter Mrs. Ruth Babcock of Napanee, Ontario. |
