Sheraton (Hitchcock) chair - pillowback fancy chair with imiatation rush seat. has one wide centre rail plus fancy top rail - "pillow" in centre and turned portions on either side. They are painted in alternating bands of black, gold, & red - varying widths for each band. The front of the seat frame is similar. Stencilled gold design of circles on pillow & front. Red border around pillow. Gold stencilled/design of flowers & leaves on centre bar. Yellow trim on front , corners, & front bars. Back legs & all rungs are rounded and plain; front legs are turned and fancy. Wide painted rings - 2 gold 1 red and 3 narrow yellow rings. The chairs two front legs end in balls which are painted red. Back legs are plain & round - a continuation of the back posts, which are flat on the front. Chair has red imitation graining over which has been applied black paint. see 72.35, 72.36, 72.37 |
Object Story |
This chair was owned by Leonard Tice Parks (1880-1956) and his wife Florence G. Roblin (1881-1941). They had three children; Arthur C. Parks (1908-1984), Evelyn Mercedes Parks (b.1902), and Marjorie Leone Parks (1904-1998). Leonard was born in Kingston, while Florence was born in Lennox and Addington County. It is known that Leonard worked in a variety of occupations, including as a labourer in 1911, while living in North Fredericksburgh, as a salesman in 1921 while the family was living at 586 Spadina Ave, Toronto, and as a farmer in 1940 living on Napanee.
