Object Story |
Thomas Edison founded the Edison Phonograph Company in 1888, when they sold recorded wax cylinders. Soon after the company switched to blue Amberol cylinders then to vertical-cut diamond discs. The company changed its name first to the Edison National Phonograph company in 1896, followed by Thomas A. Edison Inc. in 1911. The company continued until 1929 when production was stopped due to a lack of technological advancement and artist popularity. It is know that before 1910 records produced by this company did not contain the names of the artists recorded on them, as this artifact does it is known that it was produced between 1910 and 1929. |
