Description |
These 18 black and white film negatives of photos depict the Campbell Hotel in a combination of interior and exterior shots. The hotel was purchased and renovated by Barbara and Lloyd Cowle to be reopened in February of 1975. The photos were taken prior to the hotel's opening for promotional purposes, and show details of the exterior heritage brickwork and masonry alongside elegant interior decor, well-staged bedrooms, and ornate halls and dining rooms. The Campbell House Hotel was first opened in the 1860s, but suffered serious damages after a fire in the 1880s. The Cowles' renovations leading up to 1975 aimed to modernize the interior of the hotel while preserving the heritage feel of its grand hallways and its exterior design. These photos were ultimately not published in the Napanee Beaver, though the open house event at which they were taken is described on page 11 of the Napanee Beaver's February 5th 1975 issue. |
