"The books and letters of William Hinchey of Enterprise who died in 1936, turn back the pages of Lennox-Addington history to present an intimate picture of the prospects here for the immigrants who arrived in the early 1800's from Ireland and England to make a new home for themselves in the new land." (Treasure of Information on Early Pioneer Living, Margaret Wakelin, June 28th, 1960.) In 1835 Thomas Hinchey and his son, William Hinchey, came to Canada to purchased land from George Fingland and returned to Ireland. Thomas Hinchey (d. 1859, Camden East Township, also known as William Thomas) was married to Margaret Wilson (d. 1844) who was a sister of James Wilson (the father of Anne Wilson, The Hinchey Family, Cora Reid, Page 1). Thomas and Margaret had four children; Thomas Hinchey (1802-1888, married Isabella Aikens 1812-1907), William James Hinchey ([1800-1895], married Ann Wilson d. 1856), Susannah Hinchey (1805-1895, married John Wilson 1810-1892) and Baptiste Hinchey (1806-1872, married Eliza Henry c. 1819). William Hinchey (1800-1895) married Anne Wilson (died 1856) on April 25th, 1844 in County of Tyrone, Ireland. They came to Canada in May of 1844 and settled at Clark's Mills, now known as Camden East Township. They had a family farm on Lot 30, Concession 9 in Camden East Township. They had six children: Margaret Elizabeth Hinchey (April 16th, 1845-1866), Thomas James Hinchey (b. July 9th, 1847), Lucinda "Lucy" Hinchey (b. January 4th, 1849, married William Graham on November 4th, 1870), William Henry Hinchey (January 3rd, 1852-1936), Baptist Hinchey (b. March 3rd, 1853) and Isabell Hinchey (b. January 9th, 1855). William Henry Hinchey (January 3rd, 1852-1936) married Isabella Wilson on August 10, 1895 in Napanee, Lennox and Addington County. |
