Description Note |
This painting of the Napanee River between Colebrook and Yarker was painted by Eurene Nugent. It was donated to the archives in her memory by her son. Eurene Nora Fraser was born in Illinois to Emily (nee Wartman) and Charles T. Fraser on March 8th, 1875. When she was twelve, Eurene moved in with her uncle Dr. Calvin Wartman in Yarker, Ontario. It is likely that she painted this picture during this time, around the age of 19. In November 1898, Eurene married Walter Samuel Nugent in Napanee, Ontario. The couple had five children including Claude Walter (1899-1973), Marion Elizabeth (1905-1967), Courtland Dey (1908-1976), Emma Eurena (1912-1998) and Earl Wartman (b. 1917). Eurene passed away at the age of 93 in 1968. |
