This poster board looks at article 1 to 13 found in the Napanee Beaver correlating to the county's 150th anniversary as well as "From the Minute Book" highlights from between March 1864 and January 1902. |

This poster board features article 1 to 13 found in the Napanee Beaver associated with the County of Lennox and Addington 150th Anniversary and "From the Minute Book" highlights from between March 1864 and January 1902. The following is a transcription of the article titles and the highlights date range found on the poster board starting in the top left and ending in the bottom right. The 1st article in the Napanee Beaver 150th Anniversary series was published on February 20th, 2014. It shares a brief history of the County of Lennox and Addington and is titled "150 Years and Counting for Lennox and Addington". The 2nd article in the Napanee Beaver 150th Anniversary series was published on February 27th, 2014. It is titled "Stevenson a Key Player in Early L & A County" and details the life of John Stevenson Esq. who was the Provisional Warden in 1863 and 1864 and the Warden of the county in 1865. Number 1 in the "From the Minute Book" pamphlet series, highlights excerpts from the County between March 1864 and June 1865. An interesting proceeding made by the council was the motion to illegalize any persons to "utter any profane oath, any obscene indecent, blasphemous or grossly insulting language" in public. Those that did not adhere to this law could be charged between one dollar and twenty dollars. The first article labelled as the 3rd in the series in the Napanee Beaver 150th Anniversary series was published on March 6th, 2014. It is titled "Second L & A Warden Left His Mark on County" and shares a brief history of Frederick Garland Hooper who was the second ever warden of the county. The second article labelled as the 3rd in the series in the Napanee Beaver 150th Anniversary series was published on March 20th, 2014. It is titled "Legal Eagle Wilkison Left Positive Impact as County Judge" and details the life of William Henry Wilkison who was a crown attorney and later a Judge for the County of Lennox and Addington. Number 6 in the "From the Minute Book" pamphlet series, highlights excerpts from the County between January 1888 and December 1889. The council was clearly excited about their invitation to S. Gibson's oyster dinner held in March 1888. Number 7 in the "From the Minute Book" pamphlet series, highlights excerpts from the County between March 1890 and June 1892. The most interesting proceeding during this time period was the erection of the turnkey house for the Turnkey of the County jail, which is still standing on the Museum campus. The 6th article in the Napanee Beaver 150th Anniversary series was published on April 3rd, 2014. It is titled "James Reid went from Lumberman to Legislator" and describes the life of James Reid who was the County Warden in 1887. Number 8 in the "From the Minute Book" pamphlet series, highlights excerpts from the County between July 1892 and June 1896. The first highlight details the flagstaff that the council was to erect later that month. Number 9 in the "From the Minute Book" pamphlet series, highlights excerpts from the County between July 1896 and December 1898. During this time the County Council delineated the regions that the county would be separated into henceforth. The 8th article in the Napanee Beaver 150th Anniversary series was published on April 24th, 2014. It features a photo of the county council of 1893 and indicates the fact that 8 men found in this photo would go on to become wardens themselves. Number 10 in the "From the Minute Book" pamphlet series, highlights excerpts from the County between January 1899 and January 1902. This time period is darkened by the death of Queen Victoria and the council is clear that they followed the correct mourning proceedings. The 11th article in the Napanee Beaver 150th Anniversary series was published on May 15th, 2014. This article, titled "MacDonald, Cartwright had Serious Spat at L & A Courthouse", was written by Jennifer Bunting and details the exchange that occurred between Sir John A. McDonald and Sir Richard Cartwright at the Lennox and Addington Courthouse. Finally the 13th article in the Napanee Beaver 150th Anniversary series was published on May 29th, 2014. This article, titled "1905 Warden's Supper was Something to Remember", was written by somebody named "Albert" in 1905 and describes the happenings of the Campbell House during the yearly Warden's dinner. |
