Description Note |
Methodist meetings were held in Bath as early as 1788. In 1812 and again in 1821 a Masonic Hall was built on the spot which is now the eastern end of the Bath United Church cemetery. From 1826 to 1849 the Methodists rented the lower story for their meetings until they moved into their new building. On September 30th, 1849 a new Wesleyan Church was opened. The British Wesleyans and most of the Episdcopal Methodists joined to form the Wesleyan Methodist Church of Canada in 1883. Bath United Church was established in 1925 with the union of the Methodist, Congregationalist, and Presbyterian Church of Canada. Bath - Morven Pastoral Charge was formed in 1925 as Bath Pastoral Charge, formerly Methodist. The charge originally included Bath, Beulah Church in Ernestown Township, Hawley (until ca. 1966) and Union Church in Ernestown Station (until ca. 1958). From ca. 1967-1981, United Empire Loyalist Memorial Church in Adolphustown Township and Conway joined the charge from Adolphustown Pastoral Charge. Morven United Church, previously from Deseronto Pastoral Charge, also joined the charge ca. 1967. From 1981 it was a three-point charge until Beulah Church closed on June 30, 2002. The charge was then renamed Bath-Morven Pastoral Charge; as of March 2023 it is still an active pastoral charge of the United Church of Canada.
